Office Cleaning Checklist: Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Tasks

A useful office cleaning checklist answers three questions: what needs attention, how often, and who handles it. Without those details, the same reception counter may get wiped twice while the supply cabinet goes unchecked for weeks. This guide gives office managers a starting point to adapt to their building, occupancy, and service agreement.

Build your office cleaning checklist around use

Walk the office during a typical workday. Note the busiest entrances, shared rooms, food areas, and restrooms. Separate spaces used every day from rooms that stay closed most of the week. A checklist should reflect those differences instead of assigning every room the same schedule.

For each task, record the location, expected result, frequency, and responsible person. For example, “reception: remove visible marks from the counter after closing” is easier to check than “clean front office.” Agree on which surfaces staff must clear before a cleaner arrives.

Daily or each-service tasks

  • Empty designated waste bins and replace liners as needed.
  • Remove visible debris from entrances and busy floor routes.
  • Clean shared tables and accessible counters.
  • Service restroom fixtures and check soap and paper supplies.
  • Check breakroom sinks and remove food debris from agreed surfaces.
  • Report leaks, damaged fixtures, and areas that could not be accessed.

These are planning categories, not a universal requirement for daily contractor visits. An office with limited attendance may combine scheduled cleaning with staff checks between visits. Document that division so essential supplies do not depend on the next service appointment.

Weekly detail work

Consider a weekly rotation for accessible ledges, chair bases, interior glass, and floor edges. Move through the building by zone so the team has a clear stopping point and can record completion. Avoid adding vague tasks such as “dust everything”; specify reachable surfaces and any equipment that must be left alone.

Choose a regular review time. A short walkthrough before the office opens makes it easier to compare results from one week to the next without disrupting meetings or customer visits.

Monthly review and periodic work

Review supply use, recurring complaints, and upcoming events each month. Look for work that needs a separate appointment, such as detailed floor care or cleaning behind movable furniture. Confirm access, furniture handling, and any additional charge before booking it.

The monthly review is also a chance to remove tasks that no longer fit. If a storage room becomes a training room, its schedule should change with its use.

Put the checklist into practice

Start with one page per area and a simple completion log. Keep exceptions visible: a locked room should be recorded as inaccessible rather than marked complete. Use the first month to refine the plan with the people doing the work.
